Information About Wyman Research Inc.
Wyman Research Inc. was started by Don and
Sue Miller in 1984, and has
been operated by its owners since then.
The latest venture of Wyman Research is to engineer a SSTV (Slow Scan Television)
system used aboard
the MIR space station. Pictures are seen
all over the world using an assembly of equipment
from Tasco and Kenwood, with a W4HTB controller.
Besides manufacturing television equipment, Wyman Reaserch is a dealer for
Tasco and
Kenwood slow scan systems.
Be sure to visit our BOOTH 211 at the DAYTON HAMVENTION
in May 2001, for the latest developments in both FSTV (fast scan) and
SSTV.
Suggestions by W9NTP
Based on active ATV hamming since 1943 and ATV business
experience since 1984, W9NTP recommends the following, for hams unfamiliar with ATV
and seeking advice from an experienced operator.
- Transceiver: TRIDON 2000 H, or TRIDON 2000
The TRIDON 2000 produces 3 watts of
output power, and can drive a D26 ATVN to full linear output. This is
something that some transmitters can't do.
- Amplifier (Tx): Mirage D1010 TVN (driven by TRIDON 2000 H)
This gives you nearly 100 watts peak output power. In order to do
better than this, you need to go to 4CX250's (tubes).
- Amplifier (Rx): Mirage KP2, mounted on your mast
This gives an increase of one to two "P" units in your received
pictures. It can be switched in and out either automatically or manually.
- Antenna: Rutland FO22
With 22 elements, the FO22 has a gain of 15.8 dbd. It equals the
performance of my 64 element collinear. It is not power limited, like many
ATV antennas.
- Line Sampler: WM-1
This lets you see just what transmitted ATV images leave your
transmitter.
- Tower and Cable
Of course you need the tallest tower and the best coaxial cable that you
can afford. A good tower height is 50 to 70 feet. The tower height does
not make much difference during a band opening.
Hard line coaxial cable is a "must" for the dedicated ATV amateur.
However, Belden 9913 and 8214 work
very well, especially if you have a short tower.
We carry connectors for Belden 9913 coax.
