What is a Phlebotomist?
A phlebotomist is someone who performs phlebotomy. Phlebotomists have the uncanny ability to find a vein hidden beneath the skin, introduce a needle into the vein, and extract blood with little or no discomfort to the patient. Phlebotomists are vital members of the health care team. Check out the Needle Points page to see a fraction of what every phlebotomist knows.
Medicine and The Phlebotomist
Medicine is guesswork. Albeit, highly-educated guesswork made by highly-educated people, but guesswork, nevertheless. Diagnostic testing, usually on blood, eliminates some of the guessing, replacing hypotheses with facts. Phlebotomists are vital because they collect the blood necessary for diagnostic testing, allowing the health care provider to make informed decisions. Hence, the phlebotomist plays an important role in the wellness of others. Phlebotomists make a difference. Phlebotomists save lives. Want to be a phlebotomist?
